Who We Are
Home->Who We Are

We are an all-ages Christian community of hospitality, a diverse church that travels light, a pilgrim people following Jesus in the world. We have been gathering at the University of British Columbia since 1928. We belong to the United Church of Canada, the Vancouver-Burrard Presbytery and the British Columbia Conference. We do not own a church building. We worship in the Chapel of the Epiphany at the Vancouver School of Theology and make use of offices at VST for our ministry team. During the week we gather in homes and offices, in restaurants and coffee shops for conversations, meals, study and work.

Five Marks of the Church
We are rediscovering that Christian communal life has five distinguishing marks. We use the Greek words that are found in the book of Acts in the New Testament of the Bible to remind ourselves of these five marks of Christian life together:

Liturgia - Worshiping God
Koinonia - Christian community
Diakonia - Serving Jesus
Didache - Training in the Way of Christ
Kerygma - Proclaiming the Good News

Who We Are Becoming
We are learning not to be afraid of suffering with those who hurt or of making space for hard questions about life, hope and faith. We are striving to be honest about our failures and shortcomings. We are hoping to live as gifted citizens of God's peaceful kingdom come, where God's will is done.

The Elders on the Session - our governing body - have drafted this statement of our identity and vision: "Rediscovering the Way of Christ for the sake of the world."
