Forming Faith Together
You do not need to be an expert in order to participate or to feel that you belong. Bring yourself, your curiosity, your questions and your life experience.
Bible at Breakfast
We meet on Wednesday mornings from 7:30 to 8:30 at the White Spot on Broadway at Larch to host a chapter of scripture with lively conversation over breakfast. On most Wednesdays Ed Searcy facilitates our discussion. Anywhere from three or four to nine or ten of us may be on hand. Our practice is to read a book of the Bible, one or two chapters per week. We are currently reading our way through the New Testament letters of James, Peter, John & Jude. You are most welcome to drop in for breakfast and conversation.
Sunday Bible Study
On Sunday mornings at 9:00 we gather for an hour in Ed's office (#230 - 6000 Iona Drive) to host the scripture that will be proclaimed in worship later in the morning. Coffee, tea & doughnuts are regular fare as we read, discuss and pray together in preparation for worship. Newcomers to the circle are always welcome.
Lenten Devotional
Every year we invite forty-seven Uhillians to each host a scripture passage, listening for a word from God to our life together and then offering a response - written or drawn. We publish this collection of texts and responses online and invite one another to the discipline of reading, hosting and praying these texts through the season of Lent. Last year's Lenten Devotional - "Even Though They Nothing Know" is available here. This year's edition will be published online prior to Ash Wednesday, February 22.
Lenten Study
Join us for a six week study of the New Testament letter to the Ephesians. We will meet on Thursday evenings (Feb 23 - Mar 29), beginning with dinner at 6:00 followed by discussion from 7:30 to 9:00 at a member's home on West 57th Ave, just east of Arbutus. We will also gather on Sunday mornings (Feb 26 - Apr 1) from 9:00 to 10:00 in Ed's office (#230 - 6000 Iona Drive) and on Wednesday mornings (Feb 22 - Mar 28) from 7:30 to 8:30 at the White Spot on Broadway at Larch. You are welcome to join in any of these three weekly gatherings as a lenten discipline. Ed Searcy will lead the conversations and will post study notes online at Holy Scribbler.
Partnering with First United
We invite participation in our partnership with the First United Church Mission in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. There are a variety of ways to join in this partnership. Every Sunday we invite offerings of food and men's clothing for the Emergency Food & Clothing Cupboard at First. On the fourth Sunday of each month we gather following worship to prepare sandwiches to be served along with coffee on Monday morning at First. A number of us regularly travel to First United to participate in the weekly Wednesday evening meal and celebration.
