The Lord's Prayer
Join us for an engaging study of the Lord's Prayer beginning the week of September 26. Ten weekly readings from "Lord, Teach Us: The Lord's Prayer & the Christian Life" by William Willimon & Stanley Hauerwas will stimulate conversation in two groups. One group will meet in the Chapel of the Epiphany after worship on Sundays and the other on Wednesday evenings after sharing dinner at one of our member's homes in Vancouver (on West 57th Ave, near Arbutus). These sessions are a wonderful entry point for those new to the congregation and to the Christian faith. You do not need to be an expert in order to participate or to feel that you belong. Bring yourself, your curiosity, your questions and your life experience. To register in one of the groups and/or to order copies of the study book and an accompanying study guide contact Marjorie in our office (cost - $15).
The study will be supplemented by a Lord's Prayer Retreat Day hosted by the Vancouver School of Theology on Saturday, October 23. You can register for the retreat online.
Bible Breakfast Conversations
Every Wednesday morning at 7:30 we gather for an hour around a table at the White Spot Restaurant in Kitsilano (between Arbutus & MacDonald - 2518 W. Broadway at Larch). Ed Searcy is regularly present to facilitate the conversation as we discuss a selected reading from the Bible. Anywhere from three or four to eleven or twelve of us may be on hand to share breakfast and lively discussion. Our normal practice is to read a book of the Bible, one or two chapters per week. Once we have completed a biblical book we mutually agree on another to read together. We are currently reading the book of Revelation. You are most welcome to join us for breakfast and conversation.
Partnering with First United
We invite participation in our partnership with the First United Church Mission in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. There are a variety of ways to join in this partnership. Every Sunday we invite offerings of food and men's clothing for the Emergency Food & Clothing Cupboard at First. On the Sunday prior to the last Monday of each month we gather following worship to prepare sandwiches to be served along with coffee on Monday morning at First. On the fourth Wednesday of each month a group of us travel to First United to offer hospitality at the weekly meal and celebration.
