Wednesday of Holy Week
Holy Week
“So when [Jesus] had dipped the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas son of Simon Iscariot…So, after receiving the piece of bread, he immediately went out. And it was night. When he had gone out, Jesus said, ‘Now the Son of Man has been glorified, and God has been glorified in him. If God has been glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself and will glorify him at once.’”
John 13:26b, 30-32

Now, the moment when Judas leaves the table, now we may see the glory of God. The time had not yet come in all those other awe-striking times in the gospel—the miracles, the healings, the teachings—but now, when Judas takes the bread that we remember whenever we are at the communion table together and goes out into the darkness, now Jesus, now God, all at once, has been glorified. Only now can we know the scope of God’s grace, apprehend the awe-full mystery of our faith, sense the extent and entirety of God’s love for us.

Whenever we approach Your table, O God, let us remember it is the location of Your glory, where we may feel Your presence, Your deep love broken and poured out for us, Your mercy. Thanks be to God! Amen
